The lecture “The (Long) History of the Mallorca Railway Museum” continues SFM’s conference series at the Términus building next Tuesday
Museum director Guillem Febrer will explain the creation process of the exhibition centre and its heritage, social and educational value
The Términus building, headquarters of Serveis Ferroviaris de Mallorca (SFM), will host next Tuesday, 17 February, at 6:00 pm, a new lecture as part of the conference series organised by the public railway operator at this venue since last December.
The lecture, entitled “The (Long) History of the Mallorca Railway Museum”, will be delivered by Guillem Febrer, director of the museum and president of the Fundación Ferrocaib, who will explain the process behind the creation of the museum and its significance as a collective project resulting from years of work and the involvement of numerous individuals and institutions.
The Museu del Ferrocarril de Mallorca is a long-awaited initiative that has made it possible to preserve and highlight the island’s railway heritage and historical memory. Located in the former locomotive depot building at Son Carrió station, the museum was inaugurated last November with the aim of conserving, promoting and bringing the history of the railway in Mallorca closer to the public.
During the lecture, the different stages in the development of the project will be presented, together with the museum’s main objectives and its contribution to society. The social dimension of the initiative will also be highlighted, as it contributes to the creation of employment opportunities for people with disabilities and promotes awareness of the importance of mental health.
Guillem Febrer holds a degree in Law from the Universitat de les Illes Balears (UIB) and a postgraduate qualification in non-profit organisation management from the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED). His professional career has focused mainly on the social sector and on the promotion and preservation of heritage. He was also a founding member and currently serves as president of Fundación Ferrocaib for the preservation of railway heritage.
This conference series will continue throughout 2026 and aims to offer a comprehensive perspective on the role of the railway in the history and development of Mallorca, while also analysing the evolution of mobility and its social, economic and territorial impact.
The lecture is open to the public until full capacity is reached. The venue has an approximate capacity of fifty people.
