Residents of Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera will be able to apply for Mallorca’s Unified Transport Card from next week

From Monday the 9th, applications can be submitted online via the CAIB electronic headquarters, and in-person assistance begins across the islands through the island councils

The new Mallorca transport pass allows travel on trains, the metro, the interurban bus network TIB on the island, and EMT Palma city buses.

Residents of Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera will be able to apply for the Tarjeta Única (Unified Card) for Mallorca’s public transport system starting next week. From Monday 9 March, applications can be submitted online. In addition, in-person service will begin at offices of the island councils, and applications can also be processed at designated issuing points in Mallorca. This new transport pass has allowed travel since October on buses, trains and the metro of Mallorca’s TIB interurban network, as well as on EMT Palma city buses.

As a result, it is no longer necessary to have two separate transport cards to travel around Mallorca by public transport, thanks to collaboration between the Government of the Balearic Islands and Palma City Council. A further step is now being taken by making this system available to residents of the other islands, who will also be able to travel free of charge in Mallorca with the Tarjeta Única, with the collaboration of the island councils of Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera.

There are several ways to apply for the new card. From Monday 9 March, it can be requested online through the CAIB electronic headquarters, and the card can then be collected at the chosen pick-up point among those available in the electronic system, located in Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza or Formentera.

In addition, from Monday it will also be possible to apply in person at issuing points enabled in Palma and in various municipalities across Mallorca, as well as in Ibiza and Formentera at the island council offices. From Monday 16 March, in-person applications will also be available in Menorca.

From Monday 9, in Ibiza, applications and card collection will be available at the island council offices, by appointment, at the Citizen Services Department located in the building at Avenida de España, 49. In Formentera, applications can be made at the Citizen Services offices of the island council in Sant Francesc (C/ Ramon Llull, 6) and Sant Ferran (C/ Tarragona, 26).

In Menorca, from Monday 16, applications can be submitted in person (by appointment) and cards collected at the Citizen Services offices of the Island Council of Menorca in Maó and Ciutadella (in the council building at Plaça de la Biosfera, 5, Maó, and at the Sa Roqueta building, Calle Bijuters, 36, in the Ciutadella industrial estate).

The card can also be obtained immediately at all issuing points in Mallorca. In Palma, applications can be made by appointment at the Intermodal Station, the EMT Palma customer service office, the Palma City Council office at Plaça de Cort, and Palma Activa. In other municipalities, applications can be made at TIB offices in Alcúdia, Inca and Manacor, as well as at municipal offices in Calvià, Llucmajor and Marratxí.

Nearly 92,000 cards issued

Since the launch of the Tarjeta Única in early October, around 92,000 cards have been issued. The Government of the Balearic Islands and Palma City Council are currently undergoing a transition period for the implementation of the card, which has been available for application since October. The Palma Citizen Card will cease to function as a transport ticket on EMT buses from 1 April, although it will remain valid for other uses.

Users of the Palma Citizen Card who do not hold a TIB Intermodal Card must apply for the new card free of charge at any issuing point. Those who already hold the Intermodal Card do not need to apply for the Tarjeta Única or carry out any procedure, as the TIB card remains fully valid and will continue to operate.
